Spar International has launched the Eurospar supermarket in the Russian province of Bashkortostan.
On 17 July, the supermarket opened in the town of Sterlitamak. The 1,200sq m store was the second to open in the region, after the successful introduction of a smaller Spar supermarket four weeks earlier.
Spar’s opening in Bashkortostan, its 13th territory in Russia, reflects the increasing number of partners bringing Spar to consumers across the country, and is in line with the growth strategy outlined earlier this year by both Spar Russia and Spar International.
David Moore, retail development manager at Spar International, said: “The opening of Eurospar in Bashkortostan, with our partner Prodtovary PLC in the region of Bashkortostan, is yet another mark of our growth in Russia.
“The 16,000 product lines on offer, including exotic and local produce, provides a wide selection of choices, ensuring shoppers can find all that they want with price ranges indicative of the basic everyday lines through to luxury items,” he said.
“The range on offer has been specially designed to meet the needs of local shoppers, with a key focus on a wide and diverse range of ready-to-heat and ready-to-eat dishes, as well as World Cuisine.
“The emphasis on the global brand is evident not only in the meals but also in the broad private label offer available, comprising items from Russia, Austria and the International Spar brands which reflect international cuisine,” said Moore.
With an approx. population of 4,072,000 Bashkortostan is the most populous of the republics in Russia. It is also one of the most developed regions of the Russian Federation in terms of its gross regional output, volume of industrial production, agricultural production, and investment in fixed assets.
Spar International supported the Spar team in Bashkortostan with the design and layout of the Eurospar supermarket, building on the best practice experiences of working with other Spar Partners worldwide.
“A pre-launch campaign across the city made sure that everyone was aware of the opening, as local residents received leaflets and saw a billboard campaign,” said Moore.
Representatives were also on hand on the opening day to see customers’ reactions, and congratulate the partner on the exciting development.
On the day, in addition to the presence of television, radio and print media, customers were entertained with dancers, a children’s corner and much more.
