Spar said it is proud to be the only convenience retailer proactively supporting National Wine Month.
The initiative, which is being co-ordinated by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, is launching this year for the first time and hopes to encourage consumers to increase their knowledge of wine.
National Wine Month will run throughout the month of May and aims to take consumers beyond their normal wine boundaries and help them enjoy something new during the summer wine drinking period.
Spar said this is a philosophy it strongly supports and is embodied by its own National Wine Festival. Now in its second year, the Spar Wine Festival is running across the retailer’s 1,200 licensed stores and aims to encourage consumers to try something new and improve their knowledge, palates and interest in the world of wine by offering fantastic savings on over 50 different wines from France and Australia, all discounted by at least 25%.
The Spar National Wine Festival runs from the 28 April 2011 through until early June, coinciding with National Wine Month.
Spar’s wine trading controller, Xenia Irwin, said: “As the only convenience retailer to be a sponsor of this year’s National Wine Month, we believe it shows our commitment to our wines and wine consumers and both the timings and aims of National Wine Month dovetail perfectly with our wine festival. We want to encourage our customers to explore our range and take advantage of these great offers.”
