Spar Hammersmith donated a range of BBQ and party food to AkomaAsa Performing Arts Academy in London to support their fundraiser on Saturday 14 July.
The event was held to raise funds to send children from the AkomaAsa Academy on an intercultural exchange trip to Senegal, where they will train with a local dance academy, learning more about the disciplines they already study at AkomaAsa such as performing, dancing, singing and African drumming.
Based in South East London, AkomaAsa Performing Arts Academy trains and develops the next generation of culturally diverse children and young people in Western and African Diasporic Performing Arts. It was founded by Akosua Boakye who was recently recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list with a British Empire Medal for her services to dance.
Akosua Boakye said: “It was an amazing day the community managed to put together – the true spirit of togetherness!”
With Spar’s generous support, the event raised £1,583 which is a fantastic start towards getting the funds needed for the trip which will take place in 2021.
