Spar Kincaidston in Ayr is ensuring its local primary school’s ‘Cooking Bus’ Initiative will carry on for at least another two years.
The initiative is one of two, designed to engage children in the skills and knowledge required to make healthy choices and to encourage them to improve their health and wellbeing.
Once a month, one class from Kincaidston Primary School gets the opportunity to choose a recipe, go to the Spar store to purchase the ingredients, prepare the recipe and then enjoy the food they have prepared. The aim is for the children to take home the ideas and recipes to share with their families
Kincaidston Primary School was initially looking for a contribution of one month’s supply of ingredients, however since Spar supports and promotes healthy eating and is keen to raise awareness of its ever increasing fresh food options and meal ideas, it is offering sufficient vouchers for the cookery classes to continue for at least two years.
The store’s company-owned controller (south) Bill Mair insisted on ensuring such a fantastic initiative that complemented Spar’s own philosophies should be allowed to be comfortably sustained for the long term.
