Spar International has opened two Express convenience stores in Zimbabwe.
Spar already trades from over 70 outlets in Zimbabwe and has opened 12 new stores there in the last 18 months. A further 10 will be opened by June 2011.
According to the retailer, the Express format has been developed as a result of research into consumer shopping behaviour and has involved input from international Spar partners and Spar’s Zimbabwean retailers.
The new convenience stores are located in the suburbs of the capital, Harare. They offer food-to-go, ready meals, healthy snacks, barbecue packs, a juice bar and Spar’s smoothie bar, The Treehouse.
Spar said its Express store format aims to meet the constantly changing needs of consumers and offers friendly service, great value and an easy, hassle-free shopping experience.
The retailer’s latest store opening programme has created 600 jobs at store level and within Spar’s Eastern Region distribution centre.
