Spar partners with Very to offer shoppers vouchers and boost retailer income

Spar is partnering with website Very.co.uk in a voucher offer, which it claims will help boost income for retailers and reward their customers.

The move follows trials at the end of last year with Very.co.uk and Vista Print.

In the Very campaign, a one-week voucher promotion, offered Spar customers £30 off their first order over £60 at Very.co.uk. According to Spar, it exceeded expectations, resulting in 400% more redemptions than Very’s preliminary target.

The promoter pays a marketing fee for their vouchers to be distributed by Spar retailers. The vouchers, which are handed to customers with their receipt as part of the payment process, are roughly the size of a £5 note, ideal for shoppers to put in their wallets, said Spar.

Adam Margolin, Spar UK head of marketing, said: “With nearly 2,500 shops across the country, generating 15m transactions from nearly five million customers every week, we can offer partners a great route to market. These partnerships offer our retailers a real opportunity to offer customers additional value at the till.

“With the cost of voucher design, printing and distribution to stores all covered by the promoter, this marks a fantastic opportunity for our retailers to offer additional value to their customers with very limited impact on their store. The development of this promotional voucher programme is also resulting in a new profitable income stream which will be re-invested into strong marketing support for our stores to drive incremental sales,” he said.

The scheme is promoted through retail marketing agency Space in Store.

The latest promotion launched on the 12  March 2012 in Spar stores and is also with Very.co.uk. The voucher offers customers £30 off when their first order of £60 or more is placed with Very. 

According to Spar, it is the first of a number of in-store promotional offers which will be available in stores through 2012.
