Spar UK has won a £150m contract to operate stores on leisure parks owned by Bourne Leisure Group, including Haven Holiday Parks and Butlins.

The five-year deal will see 42 Spar-branded stores at all 36 Haven Holiday Parks in England, Scotland and Wales and three Butlins Family Entertainment Resorts in Bognor Regis, Skegness and Minehead.

Five Spar regional distribution centres will service the stores: CJ Lang, James Hall, AF Blakemore, Capper and Appleby Westward Group; providing the delivery of ambient/grocery, chilled, frozen, meat, fresh produce, alcohol and tobacco products.

Each Bourne Leisure site will also offer Spar’s own label range, its national promotions scheme linked to the Spar ‘Real Deals’ promotional activity and consumer marketing activities including £5m on media, radio and leaflets.

The sites will feature Spar’s new fascia and in-store imagery to support the retailer’s food-to-go products. They will also receive team training in store standards and planograms, led by a local account manager.

Mark Harper, operations director at Bourne Leisure, said: “We are delighted to be entering into a partnership with Spar, a retailer that shares our values of providing the highest standards of customer service and care.

“Spar has an established reputation for value and an extensive portfolio of convenience products, particularly its excellent own brand range, which means we can expand the range of products we provide our customers.

“Furthermore, the Spar branding in our stores will help reinforce the retail proposition we are offering,” he said.

Richard Bennett, Spar retail director, said the deal was excellent news for Spar’s business development.

“This five-year contract with Bourne Leisure Group is allowing us to expand our portfolio of Spar convenience stores across the country. The combination of these two strong brands will result in a first-rate convenience store, providing exactly what Butlins and Haven visitors need, where they need it.

“We are very much looking forward to working with the group and bringing all the benefits of the Spar brand to these sites,” he said.
