Food shoppers across the globe are set to benefit from award-winning British technology that will make finding the right food products simple and safe. UK based technology start-up Spoon Guru, is set to provide its world-leading and unique dietary preference platform to a host of new international partners, following significant grocery retail partnerships in the United States, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.
Thanks to Spoon Guru’s ground-breaking AI-led technology, a number of market-leading retailers will soon be able to ensure customers with specific dietary requirements can quickly and easily find suitable foods when shopping online. Spoon Guru is thrilled to announce new international partnerships with JET in the US (part of the Walmart Group), Albert Heijn in the Netherlands (part of global retailer Ahold Delhaize), and Woolworths in Australia and New Zealand, which will all be integrating the innovative Spoon Guru technology solution into their digital shopping platforms.
Markus Stripf, co-founder and co-CEO of Spoon Guru, commented: “Spoon Guru is passionate about helping food consumers across the globe and our expansion into new international territories makes this possible. The technology provides an innovative solution to a world-wide pain-point; 64% of the world’s population is on some form of exclusion diet and whether this is due to allergy, intolerance or health and lifestyle choices, the demand for a more personalised approach to food shopping is clear.”
Spoon Guru’s technology has been in an award-winning partnership with leading supermarket Tesco since November 2017. As well as empowering UK consumers when shopping for food online, the technology has had a positive, demonstrable impact on the grocery business’ bottom line. Tesco’s basket conversion rate has seen big increases since the search and filter technology was introduced, with some search terms seeing up to a 500% increase in conversion.
With an increasing number of consumers all over the world struggling to manage diets due to health, lifestyle and religious reasons, there is a fast-growing demand for more personalised grocery shopping capabilities, particularly in the case of allergies. When shopping online for groceries with any of Spoon Guru’s new international partners, consumers will be able to filter their food searches to include specific dietary attributes from allergies and intolerances, such as milk or tree nuts, to individual dietary requirements, such as vegan, vegetarian and healthy choices such as low saturated fat or high fibre.
Spoon Guru enables high-level personalisation for shoppers by optimising, enhancing and augmenting product catalogues with dietary tags. Spoon Guru’s proprietary TAGs™ technology determines the true suitability of products. TAGs™ utilises a sophisticated combination of AI, algorithms and human expertise to make products more accessible, searchable and discoverable. A recent AI study also revealed that the Spoon Guru technology is more efficient and accurate than health professionals when it comes to recommending suitable foods.
Following the success of its ongoing partnership with Tesco, this expansion into new international territories marks the start of a new chapter for Spoon Guru, and an important development for the grocery sector. The UK start-up, which began life as an app (which is still available to download in the UK and US), has now developed into a substantial and in-demand business to business offering.
Stripf concludes: “It’s incredibly rewarding to have the opportunity to help millions of consumers around the world to find the right foods for their personal needs. JET, Albert Heijn and Woolworths are all forward-thinking brands that share the same passions as Spoon Guru, making them the perfect partners for our business as we grow into a global solution.”
Alex Vieux, chairman of Red Herring said: “If what you eat is who you are, Spoon Guru has found a way to help billions of users meet their identity. The AI platform scans all distributed foods and enables users to acknowledge all they ingurgitate on a daily basis. Transparency has never gone as far and the platform is already adopted by grocers around the food chain. An amazing rise and a ready to use solution at our fingertips. Thus Red Herring has selected Spoon.Guru as one of the Red Herring Top 100 2019.”
