Co-op has extended its partnership with TOTUM (the new name for NUS extra) in a move which will see the convenience retailer serve-up a decade of discounts for students.
The community-based retailer – which is the only supermarket to partner with TOTUM – has now extended its partnership by an additional three years, allowing students to continue to pocket a ten percent discount on groceries at over 2,600 Co-op stores located in towns, cities and villages across the country.
The 10% student discount – which was introduced at the Co-op in 2013 – is on top of the extra value which can be unlocked through the Co-op’s re-launched Membership scheme. In addition to personalised offers and exclusive in-store deals, Members are rewarded with 2p in every pound they spend on Co-op branded products which is added to their Membership account balance. The retailer also shares a further 2% with community causes.
Amanda Jennings, Co-op’s director of marketing live and local, said: “There’s never been a more important time to show our support for the student community and we’re delighted to be further extending our partnership with TOTUM to ensure those studying in colleges and universities all over the UK can continue to enjoy the benefits of discounted Co-op products. With a Co-op in every postal area, more stores appearing on campuses up and down the country and a variety of ways to shop with us online, Co-op is here to serve students day and night, conveniently.”
TOTUM communities director, Elizabeth Bone, said: “We’re especially proud of the longstanding relationship we’ve built with Co-op, helping to deliver the exclusive 10% discount to students at universities and colleges throughout the UK. It’s a pleasure to work alongside a business with whom we share a set of common values and we’re excited to be able to work hand in hand to support the student community wherever we can. We’re always working on innovative ways to get the Co-op’s great offers into the hands of students, whether that’s through the TOTUM app, our social media or physical vouchers and we hope we’ll continue to bring students great deals on great products long into the future!”
As many students leave home to study for the first time, Co-op has also sponsored week one of TOTUM’s virtual ‘Welcome Week’, showcasing a wide range of recipes, offers and giveaways. Earlier this month, the retailer also donated over £10,000 worth of food to students affected most by local lockdowns in cities across the UK, including: Manchester; Leeds; Liverpool; London; Glasgow; Edinburgh and Swansea.
