Telecom Italia, the leader in ICT services in Italy, and payleven, the European leader in mobile card payments, have entered into a partnership, enabling Telecom Italia to offer to its customers a cost-effective and easy-to-use mobile card payments solution. The Chip & PIN card reader and a mobile app are available at no additional cost allowing business owners to use their smartphone or tablet to accept payments.
The solution is targeted to professionals, merchants and sole proprietors. Specifically, it is tailored to the millions of Italian business owners that still do not accept card payments; allowing them to comply with new legislation that goes into effect on 30 June 2014. This legislation requires all business owners and professionals to allow debit card payments for any transaction over €30. Moreover, the solution will make it easy for small business owners to avoid missing any sales and to increase customer satisfaction. A growing amount of Italian consumers prefer to pay by card instead of cash, with an increase of 4% in 2013 compared to the previous year.
“The partnership with payleven allows us to broaden our offer of advanced payment solutions,” said Enrico Trovati, business marketing director, Telecom Italia. “We are convinced that our joint solution allows small business owners to comply with the new regulations in a simple and inexpensive way, as well as giving them the opportunity to boost customer satisfaction.”
Konstantin Wolff, payleven founder and CMO, said: “We are proud to work with Telecom Italia to increase card acceptance in the Italian SME segment. The partnership with Telecom Italia demonstrates how an ICT leader with a strong distribution network can successfully shape an offer together with a young and growing pioneer in mobile payments like payleven.”
Customers of Impresa Semplice by Telecom Italia who have signed up for a monthly one GB data package can get the payleven Chip & PIN card reader at no additional cost by filling out an online form. There is no need to go to a bank branch or to open a new banking account.
The solution is comprised of a free app, available on the Google Play store or Apple store, which runs on the merchant’s smartphone or tablet. The app connects to the Chip & PIN card reader via Bluetooth, allowing the merchant to input the desired amount straight into the app, after which the customer inputs his PIN code or provides a digital signature. By using payleven, merchants can allow card payments from most major card companies, receive settlements directly into their bank account and benefit from particularly convenient commission charges on transactions. payleven offers handy extra features such as real-time sales statistics and the ability to print or send customer receipts via email, any time.
