Blakemore Retail has relocated its Thurcroft SPAR store to a new site at Unit 1-2, Green Arbour Road, Rotherham.
The 3000 sq ft store, which is a brand new build, opened its doors on Friday 20th April on the site of the former Thurcroft Hotel.
Featuring a new Greggs department, with a Subway coming soon, the store has been updated to provide a wide range of food-to-go options and will be Blakemore Retail’s biggest flagship store to open this year.
The store has also been developed to include a ‘Tonight’s Tea’ range in the extended fresh foods department, along with off-licence services and everyday essentials such as bread, milk, fresh fruit and vegetables.
The new site is situated in the centre of a housing estate and will improve convenience by providing free car parking to customers, with up to 30 parking spaces available.
The SPAR also offers CollectPlus, PayPoint and National Lottery services as well as a free cash machine. A defibrillator has been fitted at the entrance to the store.
With the addition of new food-to-go departments, Blakemore Retail has created over 12 new jobs, bringing the store’s total number of staff to 30.
Regional manager Ruth Mutton commented: “Thurcroft is an exciting and major investment for Blakemore Retail and will be the biggest flagship store we will open this year.
“The store has been purpose built using the latest innovation and design and is Blakemore Retail’s first non-forecourt store to have both a Greggs and Subway, so it will be a real destination for the surrounding areas.”
The new store has been fitted with energy saving LED lighting throughout as well as chilled cabinets which are also designed to conserve energy.
The SPAR was officially opened on Friday 20th April by the mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Eve Rose Keenan. The store also celebrated by hosting a fun day on Saturday 21st, with a free grand prize draw, face painting and free SPAR goodie bags for the first 100 customers.
The new SPAR will open 6am-11pm every day.
