More national brands win a place in Asda’s top 50 online basket this week – 12, up from just seven last time. The retailer’s Smartprice brand remains popular this week with 11 items in the basket, compared to 12 last time. There are two Chosen by You lines this week with Chosen by You Crumpets joining Chosen by You English Mature Cheddar as a seasonal treat. Discovery Mexican Plain Flour Tortillas (8) are half price at 50p this week and win a place in the basket as does Princes Tuna Chunks in Spring Water (4x185g), which are 25% cheaper than a week ago. Heinz Classic Cream of Tomato Soup (400g), an autumnal favourite, is reduced to 50p from 85p last time.
Essential Waitrose products are as popular as every with Ocado shoppers with 24 items featured, just one down on last time. Ocado shoppers, like Asda’s, also have crumpets on their lists, as the autumnal weather sets in.
Cirio Chopped Tomatoes (4x400g) and Plenty Kitchen Towels – 50 Sheets per Roll (6) are two brands making it into the top 10 this week.
Only two price changes for Ocado shoppers in this latest period: Essential Waitrose Pears (5) are up 33% to £2.00, while Nestle Nesquik Chocolate (300g) is down 38% and wins a place in the basket.
Ocado shoppers exhibit their more exotic palates this week too with Waitrose Fresh Figs (4) clinching a top 50 position.
Sainsbury’s online basket features 11 national brands this week versus 12 last time. Its Basics brand gets just three look-ins this week, however. Last week there were six outing for this value brand. There are no premium Taste the Difference lines in the basket this week but British produce continues to resonate with Sainsbury’s shoppers with five products winning places in the top 50. Crumpets get onto Sainsbury’s online shoppers’ lists too, as they do for rivals, suggesting last week was crumpet time on the grocery calendar. Seasonal produce – satsumas, up 25% on last week; and parsnips – also feature in the top 50.
Tesco’s online basket continues to feature a significant number of national brands versus rivals with 15 lines in the basket this week – unchanged on last time. Its Everyday Value brand retains its strong presence too with 13 products featured, up one from last time. Branston Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce (4x410g) have doubled in price compared with last week but still win the top ranking for a brand in this week’s basket. Nestle Frosted Shreddies (500g) are another big price mover, up to £2.29 from £1.00 last week. The Lake District Cheese Co. Mature Cheddar (350g) is 50% cheaper than a week ago at £1.99 and wins a place in the basket. No crumpets for Tesco shoppers this week, however.
Essential Waitrose continues to dominate the retailer’s top 50 online basket with 32 products featured, unchanged on last time. Cirio Chopped Tomatoes (4x400g) continue as a top-selling brand, despite doubling in price this week; followed by Anchor Butter (250g). Crumpets are on the list here too and are of the Essential Waitrose variety.
The biggest price hikes appear among the brands with Velvet Triple Layer White Toilet Tissue – 200 Sheets per Roll (9) up 50% on last time and McCain Home Chips Straight Cut (1Kg) 65% dearer than a week ago. Finish All in 1 Powerball Dishwasher Tablets Lemon (78) have doubled in price as has Loyd Grossman Bolognese Sauce (425g).
