Torex helps convenience and fuel stores stay compliant with e-learning

Torex, a leading global provider of innovative technology to the retail, hospitality and convenience and fuel markets, is introducing a new e-learning system for its convenience and fuel customers.

According to the company, it will ensure retailers are up-to-date with continually changing compliance laws, without a large investment.

The bespoke online training system, which was developed by UpSkill People, includes a range of courses focused on topics such as Health & Safety Fire Essentials, Think 25 Tobacco, Fuel Safety, PCI Essentials and Legal issues.

The e-learning system is designed to be engaging, fun and effective, said Torex. It allows managers to monitor and track employees’ progress at any given date or time, at an extremely cost effective price, the company claims.

This means management no longer have to assign an entire day to training, but can help employees learn and monitor progress at a rate that suits them. The system is available in three different modules, and customers can upgrade from their existing course to a more advanced version as their compliance requirements change.

Symonds petrol station in Cartgate, Somerset, part of Symonds Retail, has been trialling the system. Its staff have completed a range of online courses relevant to convenience and fuel retailers, thus improving their compliance knowledge and increasing their understanding of the law and what is required of them in particular situations. The training has helped to reduce the possibility of incurring fines, when facing difficult situations such as serving customers that appear to be underage, said Torex.

Anne Taylor, manager, Symonds, Cartgate, said: “Being compliant is critical to our business. The Torex e-learning course gives me peace of mind and is a tangible way of ensuring my staff are up-to-date with current legislation. I’m not a huge computer user, so it was great the system was self-explanatory and easy to follow. We had no problem with the course and there was even a bit of competition to see who would do the best. Any IT difficulties were resolved immediately by Torex and it was supportive all the way through. It’s an added string to my bow…I’d recommend it to anyone.”

Peter Huda, professional services trainer, Torex Convenience & Fuel, said: “Policies and legislation are constantly changing.  The e-learning tool is a fantastic way for convenience store management to ensure staff are kept up-to-date with these changes in an easy and flexible way.

“The system allows convenience and fuel operators to take control of their business, to ensure staff are compliant and avoid being penalised. As the system is online, it’s available 24/7 meaning businesses have constant access to track employee progress. Staff can log on and complete the courses at their own rate, a really valuable aspect of the e-learning programme which one-day courses don’t cater for.”
