Turkish food producer, Sera Foods, enters UK market

Leading Turkish food producer Sera Foods has announced it is collaborating with world food specialists Surya Foods to introduce over 100 of its skus to the UK market.

Purveyors of fine Turkish cuisine since 1984, the family run business, with production and warehouse facilities in Turkey and Germany, exports high quality and healthy Mediterranean cuisine to over 40 countries around the world.

Sera’s authentic range spans traditional Turkish olives, jams, pickles, canned vegetables, nuts, pulses, dried fruit & vegetables, pastes, sauces, spreads, spices, confectionary, molasses, tahini and ready meals.

The brand exhibited at leading UK trade fair IFE, London, last week to mark its UK launch and attract new listings with the range going into selected Asda delis from 1 April 2019.

Speaking about the partnership Surya Foods managing director Harry Dulai said: “We are excited to bring this diverse and exotic brand to a UK audience. Sera produces a wealth of healthy, Mediterranean staples like olives and pickled vegetables, as well as traditional, indulgent Turkish treats like Halva. It is a fantastic brand through which to explore Turkey’s rich culinary landscape. We expect it to be popular with both the UK’s Turkish population and foodies keen to emulate authentic Turkish fare.”

Modern Turkish food is a fusion and refinement of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, Eastern European and Balkan cuisines, evolving from the Ottoman Empire. The simple and tasty fare is now enjoyed the world over, with stylish Turkish chains like Sofra, by Turkish/British chef Hüseyin Özer – serving up mezes, kebabs and traditional Turkish desserts – helping popularise the cuisine to a mainstream UK audience.

The UK’s Turkish population stood at half a million in the 2011 census, with significant populations across many London boroughs, as well as Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield.

As one of the largest suppliers of world food lines into national and independent retail in the UK, Surya Foods will be looking to place the brand with retailers across the UK.

RSPs range from 0.59p for Sera Lemon dressing to £3.49 for Sera Green Olives (800g).
