UK Facebook Commerce Index: top 25 retail sites

UK retailers are growing their Facebook fan base by 15% per month, according to ChannelAdvisor’s new UK Facebook Commerce Index (UKFBCI).

The Index, which tracks over 100 leading retailers, found their total fan count increased by over 1.1m fans in June.

According to ChannelAdvisor, that is a considerably faster growth rate than the company’s tracking index in the US, and at a similar level recorded between April and May.

It suggests UK brands are continuing to wake up to the power of the Facebook fan base and are investing (successfully) in strategies to aggressively increase fan count, said the e-commerce solutions provider.

Top growers in June include Lakeland, which posted a convincing 134% growth in fans.

ChannelAdvisor said Lakeland’s increase has been partly driven by a prize draw with a tempting range of prizes, including a cooking master class and a spa experience in a Scotland for eight people.

“Think about it – if you wanted to win the spa experience – what’s the first thing you would do after you’d entered the competition? Share the link with seven friends and ask them to enter too. A perfect example of taking advantage of the viral nature of Facebook sharing,” said James Scott, managing director EMEA at ChannelAdvisor.

ASOS also had an impressive month, adding over 280,000 new fans. This is the largest amount of new fans added this month and represents an almost 50% growth in its fan base in 30 days.

Play.com grew its fan base by 27% by employing a ‘VIP-only’ access strategy – basically meaning a customer needs to ‘Like’ its fan page in order to access special ‘VIP’ offers, competition and previews.

Lastly, Best Buy UK posted 116% monthly growth driven by the E3 2011 show and Father’s Day.
