Boë Superior Gin, the premium spirit from Stirling-based VC²  Brands, has been awarded Silver in the Contemporary Gin category at the 2014 World Gin Awards.

The gin, which first came to market in 2008, is available in Asda and Dobbies Gift Centres and in bars and restaurants throughout Scotland and London. It is also available in major supermarkets and bars throughout Spain. 

The World Gin Awards are part of the prestigious World Drinks Awards programme, launched in 2007 with the World Whiskies Awards and World Beer Awards. Presented by, the World Gin Awards select, reward and promote the best Gin Taste and Design to consumers and trade across the globe.

Boë Superior is distilled using the traditional Carterhead still system yet, at 47%, it still retains a high abv. Named after the man widely credited with the creation of gin, 17th century Dutch physician Franz de la Boë, the high abv is also in keeping with the professor’s vision for his original creation, Genever.

Distilled in small batches, using the Carterhead still system ensures the botanical vapours go through the liquid instead of being boiled, capturing more flavour. Boë Superior Gin uses all natural ingredients and with 13 botanicals, contains more than its leading competitors.

The subtleties of Boë Superior Gin are found in the selection and preparation of its botanicals, the fine balance of herbs and spices central to its distinctive taste and quality, the company claims. Juniper berries and their flavoursome oils are at the heart of gin distillation, but it takes many more elements to make Boë special. VC² Brands has taken a lot of time and care over the selection of Boë Superior Gin’s botanicals, which shows in the striking taste of the finished product.

Other brands recognised at the awards included Bombay Sapphire, Gilpin’s and Darnely’s View.
