Del Monte, the UK’s number one canned fruit brand, has secured a listing with Waitrose & Partners for 15 products in its range.
Nine of Del Monte’s canned fruit lines are being rolled out this month to 256 of the retailer’s stores, three quarters of the overall estate. This includes Pineapple Chunks in Juice, Fruit Cocktail in Juice, Peach Slices in Juice and Pear Halves in Juice. A further six lines are available in 74 stores including Prunes in Juice and Mandarins in Juice.
Commenting on the new listing, Martin Tilney, commercial director for Del Monte UK and Europe, said: “Just like Waitrose & Partners, we insist on quality, so our new presence on shelf is a natural fit. Del Monte is a household name brand, delivering handpicked fruit of exceptional quality, kept perfectly fresh in eco-friendly canned packaging. Although our heritage stretches back more than 125 years, our proposition is actually very modern and well suited for today’s healthy, conscious consumer.”
In 2021 Del Monte is partnering with Jack Monroe, the food writer and anti-poverty campaigner, to promote the benefits of canned fruit to UK consumers, including nutritional credentials and product versatility in both sweet and savoury dishes. Del Monte also recently made a £10,000 donation to Magic Breakfast, a charity that aims to end hunger as a barrier for education in UK schools through the provision of healthy breakfasts to children living with food poverty.
On the global stage, Del Monte continues making significant progress towards its 2025 sustainability goals. In the next four years the company aims to have planted 2.5 million trees, support 300 local sustainability projects and and provide educational opportunities for 20,000 people.”
