New figures from Westfield London reveal a 30% growth in sales in homewares since 2008 and a 57% increase in the number of homewares stores in what is now Europe’s largest shopping centre.
Retailers including John Lewis, West Elm, BoConcept and Heal’s have already moved into the centre’s £600m expansion this year, with Raft opening this summer, Habitat joining them in September and DFS and Natuzzi Italia opening towards the end of the year. The openings signal the ambition for Westfield London to become a key destination for homes and interior lovers offering superior service with easy access parking at a Central London location.
The new retailers are among more than 90 new shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment destinations that will open this year within the 740,000 sq. ft. expansion. On completion, Westfield London will comprise around 450 shops across 2.6m sq. ft. of lettable area offering an enhanced customer experience.
Keith Mabbett, director of leasing UK/Italy, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said: “The £600m expansion of Westfield London has enabled us to expand new and growing categories including homewares. We’re thrilled to be building a growing community of high-profile retailers and strengthening our position as the perfect destination for shoppers to find the very best products for their home.”
Westfield London’s expansion launched on 20 March, six months ahead of schedule, signalling the start of a phased opening. A number of major announcements and openings are taking place throughout the year ahead of the centre’s 10th anniversary on 30 October 2018, consolidating Westfield London’s position as a world-leading retail and entertainment destination.
Clare Askem, managing director, Habitat – which opens its first new flagship store in 10 years at Westfield London in September – commented: “Westfield London is already a very well-established shopping destination, and we are excited to be part of the new ‘Home Hub’ which brings together so many important UK home retailers under one roof making it really easy for customers to shop for their homes. For Habitat, this convenient new ‘Home-Hub’ format is a fabulous location in which to launch our new store, allowing us to bring our inspirational and unique designs to customers in West London.”
Westfield London has a unique offering anchored by four major department stores including John Lewis, M&S, Debenhams and House of Fraser, along with major retailers including Waitrose, Next and Primark, the UK’s only luxury quarter inside a shopping centre, The Village as well as the UK’s number one cinema Vue.
