Hereford-based Westons Cider has signed a new contract with incumbent IT outsourcer Quiss Technology to ensure its IT function continues to support a growing business which now sells 46m pints of cider and perry every year.
The new contract includes an infrastructure refresh, underpinned by a fully-managed IT support service.
According to Quiss, the infrastructure will offer enhanced resilience to ensure the business can continue to operate in the event of a power cut. As a £35m turnover supplier to supermarkets, off licences, hotels, restaurants, pubs and clubs in the UK and 40 other countries worldwide, business continuity is critical to the ongoing success of the Much Marcle-based cider business.
Quiss aid the IT infrastructure has been designed to ensure if physical or virtual server failure occurs for any reason, servers are restarted in the fastest possible way with systems up and running and ready to use with minimum downtime. Using the latest in infrastructure technology means backup is provided with fast, automatic, database level recovery and system stability is improved, the company said. Security has also been improved through the provision of encryption of laptops to protect confidential and sensitive commercial information, Quiss added.
The range of HP equipment selected for Westons supports the cider makers’ corporate social responsibility efforts by reducing the number of servers provided through the adoption of virtualisation technology, said Quiss. This, along with more energy efficient hardware, less power consumption and less air conditioning required in the server room, means the business is now a greener operation, the company claims.
