Global e-commerce consultancy Wunderman Thompson Commerce has developed and debuted Shell Helix’s first-ever Direct to Consumer website in Egypt.
Consumers in Egypt can now purchase and schedule an oil change service using the Online to Offline (O2O) experience, another first for Shell Helix. From inception to full implementation, it took just 12 weeks to develop the website for Shell Helix, Shell’s passenger car engine oil brand.
The Shopify platform captures customer and order data to identify trends and behaviours as part of the first phase approach. This data is then transferred to four mobile vans that deliver oil directly, with plans in place to expand the service into other countries in phase two and three.
The website was built in both English and Arabic for the Egyptian market by three cross-functional teams from London, Cairo and Melbourne who leveraged insight from Shell’s global distribution centres.
Rod Anthony, senior consultant at Wunderman Thompson Commerce, said: “The Egyptian eCommerce market is a particularly interesting one, especially with online shopping at the early stages of adoption. Shell’s Shopify platform now allows the business to connect and directly assist consumers using data-driven insights at every step. It’s exactly the kind of individual experience that will surprise and delight consumers, and help the oil and gas industry continue to innovate and reinvigorate their services in line with other industries. We’re looking forward to expanding the model to other countries and using the work we’ve done with Shell as a blueprint for DTC success.”
Jie Qiao, global associate brand manager for Shell Helix, said: “The Communicator Awards receive over 6,000 entries, making it one of the largest of its kind in the world and we are very pleased to receive the four awards in recognition for our first global D2C site.”
Marwa Salem, Shell Helix brand manager Egypt at Shell, added: “Winning these awards validates our project success and endorses Wunderman Thompson Commerce as a great business partner, one that we can rely on to continue to evolve and help grow our online business.”
The Shopify website that has been developed for Shell Helix in Egypt has won four commendations at the 2020 Communicator Awards in the following categories:
